Walking through the hallways of SKHS, a smile or nod is a usual greeting to a friend or acquaintance. Many students don’t bother to stop and say hi or ask how anyone’s day is. Why is that?
Having lived in Hawaii and Texas, the only thing I don’t enjoy about my days in school here is the passing time in between periods.
I got used to conversing and participating in public displays of affection which would either be hugging or a peck on the cheek. It was considered rude to pass by someone you know and not stop to ask how their day was or give them a hug and say hello. So what is our problem?
I believe we live in a world where we always have to rush. Yes I too get impatient when oblivious freshmen block the halls; however, they are practicing something we are not: displaying manners through socialization.
We could learn a thing or two from them, if our friends really are what we say they are then why don’t we show that we care in school? This is no longer a world where talking to the opposite sex without supervision is forbidden.
So the next time you see a friend, go up to him or her, give your friend a hug or pat on the back and just say, “hey,” because doing things like that could just brighten someone’s day.
This seems to be a cultural problem in our community as a whole. Good observation and GOOD FOR YOU to try and get it turned around!
