Student Council Spices Up Homecoming

Homecoming2Get ready to be pumped up because on Friday, November 13, SKHS’s own Student Council has organized a pep rally, parade and tailgate event for tonight’s football quarter final playoff game vs.  the West Warwick Wizards.

Friday’s events will be followed by the annual spirit week, next week, and homecoming dance on Friday, November 20.

Student Council President Rachael Bessette calls the F Period pep rally, “a celebration of the football team and the other sports teams that are winning.”

Though the pep rally is for the entire school to take part in, the activities following the rally appear more upperclassmen oriented.  A parade after school will consist of senior decorated cars and a few surprises will travel from the high school down Main Street and then onto Curtis Corner Middle School.

“Around three or three thirty, the parade will leave for CCMS [Curtis Corner Middle School] for the post-parade tailgating,” says Bessette.

Student Council has planned a tailgate for those who take part in or follow the parade to CCMS.  At CCMS,  grills will be set up for anyone who chooses to bring food.

The tailgating is not the end of exciting things to happen that night, however.  During the halftime of the football game vs. West Warwick, the nominees for Homecoming King and Queen from each grade will be announced to the crowd.

Then on Monday, November 16, the annual spirit week begins.

On the 16th, the day is “class colors,” said Bessette where each class is assigned a color to wear.  The following day, Tuesday the 17th, is “Twin day,” where two or more students dress identical to the other.  Wednesday is “Neon day,” where neon colors are to be worn by everyone.  Thursday will be “Decade day,” which allows students of all grades to dress up as any decade of their choice.  The last day of the week, Friday the 20th, is “Pajama day.”

The evening of November 20 is the night of the Homecoming Dance, where the Kings and Queens will be crowned.  Throughout the week, during school hours,  tickets will be sold for $10 a person to attend the dance.

Homecoming events will continue with “Blue & White Day” on November 25th, the Wednesday prior to the Thanksgiving Football game.

The day will give the student body a chance to show their school spirit and later attend the annual Diva Bowl competition, where girls from every grade compete in a game of flag football.
